[29/06/2010] What are flexible tripods?

Flexible tripod, as their name indicates, have flexible legs that can be wrapped around tree branches, poles, and other objects. They are ideal where no flat surface is available and for taking self-shots, but in most instances can support only very light cameras and camcorders.

The most popular flexible tripod is the Joby GP1-EBEN Gorillapod, which supports cameras that weigh up to 275 grams. The legs of this tripod offer surprisingly good stability and the item is so small and light (it weighs only 45g) that easily fits into a pocket and can be carried practically anywhere.

Obviously, the flexible tripods have very limited use, but yet they are extremely easy to deploy and perfect in situations and terrains, where larger and heavier tripods cannot be used.
